Memories General Douglas MacArthur in Indonesia

The U.S. General Douglas MacArthur was named. In World War II, he came to Papua to expel the Japanese army occupying this region. The story you can follow in the MacArthur Memorial, Jayapura.

In 1944 the Allied forces arrived in Humboldt Bay, Depapre District, Jayapura district. These troops led by General Douglas MacArthur, Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army Field Marshall of the armed forces as well as the Philippines. MacArthur is the brains of the U.S. strategy in World War I, World War II, the Korean War as well.

Upon arriving at the Humboldt Bay (locals call it the Gulf Hamadi) and create a base defense there, MacArthur visited troops in Jayapura Ifar Mountain. First, a complex mountain Ifar defense troops. Here lies the MacArthur Memorial, silent witness to the greatness of the general Allied's famous for his pipe.

Friday (20/06/2012) morning, the cool breeze caressing my skin during a trip to the MacArthur Memorial. Being on top of one Cyclops Mountains, this place seemed to be bulwarks against the heat of the famous city of Jayapura. Half an hour drive from Jayapura-Sentani Highway, I arrived at a military compound gate.

Parent Regiment Kodam (Rindam) XVIII Trikora, so the text contained in gapuranya. After leaving the ID card at the entrance and opened the window wide open, I entered the compound. Almost the same as other military complex, with buildings, barracks, and the field for sports. Contoured landscape, yet remains smooth asphalt road until I arrived at the monument.

MacArthur is not a memorial monument long and high as I imagined. The form in terms of five, with two dominant colors namely black and yellow. In the body text of the monument is written in English and Indonesian, to explain the location of it being the general headquarters of the Allied Forces for the Pacific Southwest region.

Monument that overlooks the expanse of clouds, which also hangs in front of me. Unfortunately the weather was not too sunny day, but it seems very beautiful panorama of Lake Sentani when viewed from here.

Hans Yambeyabdi, so a local guide who served here, welcomed me warmly. Hans is ready to answer all questions posed tourists, including about a variety of data and newspaper clippings taped to the Showroom.

"This place is so spot MacArthur war strategy. See benches there? Was made by the Allies," said Hans.

Benches is spread on the outskirts of the hill, directly overlooking the stretch of landscape Jayapura who was hidden behind a white cloud.

I sat down on one of the benches, hoping to get out of white clouds. Shortly afterwards Sir Hans menyeletuk, "MacArthur was benches favorite!"

I am suddenly happy. Apparently, this is the General's favorite bench to sit and think of the Great war strategy. I can imagine sitting on this bench MacArthur, while the white soldiers wandering around.

White clouds suddenly gone. Then terlihatlah, exceptional panoramic expanse of beautiful from up here. Lake Sentani slowly peek, at Sentani airport runway started to appear. It's beautiful.

Apart from the beautiful panorama, the MacArthur Memorial will enrich the historical treasures. Sentences were ejected after visiting here, probably the same as the most famous quotes from the general: "I came through and I shall return." (travel.detik.com)
